Reading the dashboard
The widget canvas
Section titled “The widget canvas”The dashboard is a free-form canvas, not a fixed layout. Every tile on it — KPI numbers, trend charts, and other data widgets — can be dragged to a new position or resized, and there is no privileged “built-in” tile: every tile, including the ones a new account starts with, is an instance of a catalogue entry, so it can be removed outright, added back, or placed twice.
Click Edit layout to enter edit mode. A sticky bar names the mode and what a tile can now do; while it’s active, dragging anywhere on a tile (not just a corner grip) moves it, and each tile’s own controls let you resize or remove it. Removing a tile takes it off the canvas — it doesn’t delete any underlying data, and you can add it back from the picker at any time.
Adding a widget
Section titled “Adding a widget”Use the canvas’s Add widget control to open a searchable picker listing every catalogue entry with a one-line description, plus two more rows for building your own:
- Custom metric… — pick a metric and scope (for example, total AWS spend this month, or spend for a specific cost tag) and pin it as a KPI number tile.
- Custom chart… — pick one or more cost sources or tags to chart together over time, rather than using one of the catalogue’s preset charts.
The catalogue itself covers:
- KPI tiles — MTD spend, budget status, commitment utilization, savings available, discount capture rate, annualised savings opportunity, and (if you’ve connected Salesforce) active clients.
- Cards — spend by source, budget status, commitment utilization, top cost movers, savings opportunities, event impact, a recent-events feed, and carbon footprint.
Which of these appear on a brand-new dashboard is just a default seeding — every one of them can be added to, or removed from, any dashboard independently.
You can also pin a saved Cost/Event/Usage Explorer view straight onto the canvas as a live chart tile from that explorer’s own “Pin to dashboard” action, or from the Chart Library, rather than going through the widget picker at all.
Multiple dashboards
Section titled “Multiple dashboards”An account isn’t limited to one canvas. The Dashboard picker in the page header lists every dashboard you can see — your own personal ones plus every dashboard shared with the account — with a checkmark on the one you’re viewing and a “Shared” badge on shared ones. From that same picker you can create a new dashboard, switch between dashboards, and rename or delete the ones you’re allowed to edit.
Two kinds:
- Personal dashboards are visible only to you.
- Org-shared dashboards are visible to every member of the account. Because more than one person can be looking at a shared dashboard at once, it doesn’t autosave on every drag the way your personal dashboard does — edit mode adds an explicit Save changes button instead, so one member’s in-progress rearrangement can’t silently overwrite what someone else sees.
The dashboard you land on when you open the app is still your original, single per-account canvas — creating additional dashboards doesn’t change or move it.
Billed vs. amortized
Section titled “Billed vs. amortized”Charts and KPI tiles that show cost can toggle between billed cost (what the provider charged in that period) and amortized cost (the same charges, but with prepaid commitments like Reserved Instances or Savings Plans spread across the term they cover). See Billed vs. amortized cost for what changes between the two and which providers support amortized figures.
Display currency
Section titled “Display currency”If your account has cost sources billing in more than one currency, you can switch the dashboard’s display currency. Cost figures convert to the currency you pick; the underlying data is unaffected. See Multi-currency for how conversion works and which figures (like budgets) don’t convert.
