Connecting

Method: API Key + Application Key

1. In Datadog, go to Organization Settings > API Keys and select New Key.
2. Go to Organization Settings > Application Keys and select New Key. Scope it to usage_read.
3. In Plutus, paste the API key and the application key into the connection form.
4. Enter your Datadog site (for example datadoghq.com). If your org is on the EU site, use datadoghq.eu.
5. Select the billing currency Datadog invoices you in. Datadog’s Estimated Cost API returns bare numbers with no currency field, so Plutus can’t detect this automatically. You can’t change it after the first sync — spend already stored was converted to the USD base at this currency’s rate on each charge’s date. To change it later, remove and re-add the source.
6. Optionally, enter up to 3 comma-separated cost allocation tag keys (for example team,env) to create cost-tag rules matching on their values. These tags must already be configured under Plan & Usage > Usage Attribution in Datadog — Datadog only reports cost for tags it’s been told to track.
7. Save the connection. Plutus calls the Usage Metering API to pull host, log, and custom metric counts.

Notes

Datadog’s Estimated Cost API reports monthly buckets, not daily — the current month’s figure is a running estimate that keeps updating as the month progresses and on-demand overages are billed, so it can lag behind your actual invoice until the month closes.
